Few industries have reaped the benefits of digital transformation more than construction and building, according to a new report released by the Digital Transformation Network.
The digital tools put into practice by architects, engineers, and contractors have made building industries safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. The report showcases how digital transformation has improved construction projects across three key phases – Planning, Building, and Lifecycle Management of projects.
Drawing on established research on the construction sector, the report shows how the tools and services provided by makers of enterprise software have become an important part of the building and construction process, possibly helping to reduce construction costs by 4-6 percent, and increase productivity by as much as 15 percent.
The report deploys a variety of case studies that illustrate how enterprise software is helping to build a better future in the following areas of focus:
- Planning: Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems, Digital Twins
- Building: Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR + VR), Offsite Manufacturing, Job Site Safety, Document Management
- Lifecycle Management: Asset Management, Connected Projects, Smart City Networks
The case studies included in the report shows how software companies including Alteryx, Autodesk, Bentley Systems, Docusign, Graphisoft, Kyndryl, Mastercam, Salesforce, Siemens, and Unity – along with other leading global companies – have helped to advance these elements of digital transformation in real-life projects worldwide.
The construction sector report adds to the portfolio of quarterly, cross-sector reports published by the Digital Transformation Network (DTN), a signature initiative of BSA | The Software Alliance. In its first year, the DTN published cross-sector reports showing the impact of digital transformation in the automotive industry, manufacturing, and in achieving sustainability.
This report as well as the impact of cybersecurity within the construction industry will be a point of discussion during the leading construction trade show, CONEXPO-CON/AGG, on March 15 in Las Vegas. Click here for more information about the session.
