In this BSA series – “AI@Work” – enterprise software leaders explain in their own words how artificial intelligence (AI) is having a positive impact on people’s jobs and the workforce. In this submission, Rubrik’s Chief Product Officer Anneka Gupta writes about Rubrik Ruby, an AI-powered assistant for data security and the importance of reskilling and upskilling the workforce.

What is your AI@Work?

At Rubrik, we’ve seen numerous examples of customers – especially in the financial services and healthcare industries – selectively deploying generative AI technology for specific use cases such as reducing the time to resolve calls coming into call centers and fraud detection within transactions. These customers are prioritizing use cases with clear top-line and bottom-line benefits that can be easily quantified.

How do you develop products for AI@Work?

As we developed Rubrik RubyTM, our AI-powered assistant for data security, our primary focus was saving time for our customers to investigate and remediate security issues found in their systems through our platform. Traditionally, these investigations can take an IT or security operations person countless hours and a lot of back and forth with other internal teams to complete. By providing a guided and conversational workflow, Ruby aims to reduce the time needed to resolve the issue.

How will AI@Work change how people do their jobs, and how should we prepare?

One of the most significant opportunities for AI is to reduce the grunge work that is a necessary part of many jobs – whether in IT, security, customer service, engineering, marketing, or other functions. As a result, this can open up new opportunities for people to focus their time on creative problem-solving. The optimist in me believes that the pace of innovation and change to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems will increase because of this; however, we must also ensure we continue to give individuals the opportunities to upskill for future jobs.

What are some key takeaways for leaders using or planning to use AI@Work?

When considering ways to deploy AI, I encourage leaders to first identify a few internal use cases – such as customer support, engineering testing, or marketing content – where there are meaningful time and cost saving opportunities as a way to start with quick wins, and build from there.

It’s important to remember that AI is still an emerging technology, and we must be thoughtful and deliberate about the technologies being deployed to balance the benefits and potential risks, such as security, data leakage, and quality issues, among others that are still unsolved challenges in this space.

Finally, don’t forget the human element. Change can be difficult and scary. Help your workforce prepare for the future by providing opportunities to learn and participate in driving innovation.
