The seamless movement of information across borders drives the digital economy. Companies from around the world in every sector rely on the responsible transfer of information to foster innovation and create jobs.
That’s why BSA | The Software Alliance has launched the Global Data Alliance. A multi-industry coalition of companies from across Europe, Asia, and the Western Hemisphere, the Alliance supports policies that instill trust in the digital economy and safeguard the ability to transfer information across borders.
The movement of information across borders impacts every sector. There are many examples:
- In agriculture, predictive weather modeling can reduce crop damage by drawing upon data gathered from thousands of sensors across countries and regions.
- In health, research and laboratory data in AI-powered systems leads to better diagnoses, more cost-effective research, and the development of new life-saving cures.
- In finance, service providers analyze data from around the world to identify and stop fraudulent transactions and combat criminal behavior.
- In advanced manufacturing, companies use real-time analysis of performance indicators gathered from factories around the world to improve workplace safety and increase productivity.
For companies of all sizes and across all sectors, legal certainty and predictability relating to the cross-border movement of information are more important than ever. Data is integral to the global economy, and yet there is no global consensus in this area. The Global Data Alliance will work to build that consensus.
