Dear BSA Team-
We at BSA unequivocally condemn the continued racism and inequality we grapple with in the United States, and we recognize the outrage and sadness that the vicious murder of George Floyd – one in a long history of despicable events – has brought forth. The strength of our country lies in creating unity and it is a tremendous failure of America and the ideals that it stands for that racism and injustice towards black Americans remains pervasive.
BSA as an organization is committed to fostering a society that values and actively promotes diversity and equality and champions policies and programs that support these values. As you find ways to engage in the public discourse in these incredibly challenging times, please continue to demonstrate empathy and respect toward one another and in how we engage with our communities and the broader world.
It is important that individuals are heard and supported during these times and that we share an understanding that injustices toward black Americans affect each and every one of us, even if in different ways. More than that, even as I am filled with sadness, it is my hope that the outpouring of emotion in recent days will lead to a commitment from our society to take steps to end these individual and systemic injustices.
Victoria
