By Salesforce Vice President of Climate Action Tim Christophersen
Organizations of all types, including technology companies, are grappling with the effects of climate change and what their roles should be to reduce the impacts it is having on every person. At Salesforce, we believe that bold climate action is imperative for a sustainable future, and that every organization has a role to play, including the technology industry.
Earlier this month, Salesforce announced our Nature Positive Strategy, as an extension of our Climate Action Plan. The Strategy outlines specific actions the company will take to accelerate our existing commitment to a net zero, nature positive future rooted in people and climate justice. Salesforce is one of the first global companies to establish a comprehensive Nature Positive Strategy, setting an example for other organizations to follow. The Strategy is informed by the new Global Biodiversity Framework under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, adopted in December 2022.
It focuses on reducing our impacts on nature; leading on nature restoration at scale; and accelerating customer success and the nature-positive movement. By 2025, we plan to measure, manage, and develop an action plan to reduce our impacts and dependencies on nature across our value chain, including data centers, offices, people, and products. Our commitment to nature restoration includes supporting and mobilizing the conservation, restoration, and growth of 100 million trees by 2030 through 1t.org, and accelerating the Mangrove Breakthrough to restore and protect mangroves at scale. With the growing urgency of the climate crisis and the need to conserve and restore nature, we recognize the importance of prioritizing nature-based solutions and investing in efforts to reduce our environmental impact.
Salesforce has also expanded our solutions with Net Zero Cloud, to help our customers accelerate their sustainability journeys. We help to develop the data frameworks for managing nature impacts, such as the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures. We also advocate for public policies that support climate action, support ecopreneurs, and empower local and Indigenous communities through the UN’s Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform.
We’re bringing the full power of Salesforce to accelerate the world’s journey to net zero because everything rests on a stable climate. With our robust and inclusive programs, we know that organizations of all sizes, public or private, can join us in building a more sustainable future.
