In this BSA series – “Why AI?” – enterprise software leaders explain in their own words how artificial intelligence (AI) is having a positive impact on individuals, businesses, and organizations worldwide. In this submission, Okta Chief Security Officer David Bradbury discusses how Okta is using AI to provide stronger security solutions.
1. Why AI?
At its core, Identity is all about making trusted connections between people and technology. And as the lines between humans and machines blur, ensuring these connections remain trusted is a challenge that grows more important by the day. So we’re harnessing the positive power of AI to provide stronger security and better user experiences.
Our AI innovations continue to be rooted in our belief in strong standards and our focus on delivering safety, security, and trust for our customers and the global community. In close partnership with our robust privacy and compliance teams, we ensure we handle data ethically and in compliance with privacy regulations, responsibly accelerating innovation as the world’s most trusted Identity company.
2. Can you give an example?
Okta AI leverages massive amounts of data from Okta’s ecosystem to power actions and provide recommendations for security, application development, and policy administration. While AI brings unbridled potential for developers, entrepreneurs, and businesses, the bad actors have it too. Okta AI is designed to automate detection and defense of threats, both at the point of login and beyond. One example that Okta is in the process of launching is “Universal Logout,” which will automatically log users out of all critical apps when there’s a security issue. This represents an industry first, made possible by Okta’s neutrality and AI-powered risk engine – offering Single Sign Out, as well as Single Sign In.
From millions of developer interactions on Okta’s platform, Okta AI will deliver inline recommendations on how to improve the sign-up flow and security posture via a chatbot-like interface, helping to boost productivity for engineers and application development teams.
For IT administrators, Okta AI will live in their dashboards as a chatbot that provides personalized recommendations for Identity and security policies, based on industry best practices and aggregated intelligence from Okta’s customer base. This will help IT departments do more with less, even with more and more distributed workforces.
3. Where can we learn more?
Our responsible approach to AI development already supports our mission to safely connect anyone to any technology. With Identity, the next wave of AI innovations can create stronger security, better user experiences, more productive developers and workforces, and, importantly, more trust.
