Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy – BSA Staff Spotlight Series

Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy – Country Manager, India

From Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Living in New Delhi.

Before I joined BSA | The Software Alliance in February 2017, I worked as an Associate Director at APCO Worldwide, consulting in the tech policy space. My first job was at a Fortune 500 oil marketing corporation selling industrial-grade lubricants. I also worked for a couple of years at a nonprofit focused on after-school education programs in villages.

My undergraduate degree is in mechanical engineering, and my postgraduate degree is in management, specializing in public policy.

What’s the most unique part about working at BSA?

For me, the most unique part of working at BSA is the global approach to issues. When you work on a global scale, you see that while things can be dramatically different, they can also carry a sense of commonality.

What’s the most helpful thing you’ve learned working at BSA?

One of the most helpful things I have learned while working at BSA is to be able to focus on a couple of key issues or areas over long periods, even if it means doing less. This does not come naturally to me, so it was challenging at first.

How would you describe BSA and the software industry to someone unfamiliar with them?

Global, process-oriented, and digital-first.

What is the most meaningful piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

One of the most meaningful pieces of advice I’ve received was from my father. He told me to “place trust and faith in people, even if only one or two out of 10 return or fulfill your trust.”

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Butterscotch!

Favorite book/podcast/longform article you recommend? What did you learn?

I look forward to reading different versions of the “Mahabharata.” Through it, I learned that life has many characters, emotions, shades, and layers. There are no heroes or villains, or winners or losers. Just keep walking.

Favorite spot for a coffee meeting?

If not in the office, the Third Wave coffee shop is where I mostly sit.

When is the last time you completely unplugged?

My five-year BSA sabbatical. I was well-rested after that three-week break.
